What's up with us?

  • We have a new niece and nephew!!
  • We bought all the materials to create a raised garden bed
  • We also bought some plants: jalapeno peppers, serrano peppers, poblano peppers, sweet tomatoes, raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries. We got a great deal since it is the end of the season. Everything was at least 50% off!
  • My sister is moving back to Texas!!
  • Halloween is next month and our theme for the driveway is pirates.
  • We are prepping to host my family for Thanksgiving this year. I am determined to make my own turkey.

My Grant and I have been reading the "your money the missing manual book" which is from the author of the get rich slowly blog, but in this book, he talks about how much having their own garden saved them money. It seems really interesting! Have you done this before? Or is there a source you are using for information?

We are really doing it because we love our new backyard it seems like a fun hobby. However, I have been realizing that it will save us a lot of money on bell peppers and tomatoes alone. We plan to do our big planting time in early spring, but we came across such a good deal, we couldn't pass it up.

So to answer your question, no, we have not done this before and there is not a source that we are using for info. We know that we need a raised bed because our earth is so rocky that it can be difficult for the grass to grow. Hopefully the garden will do well.
